I went to the hospital again, and there they said, Hey, she&#8217;s in so much pain. We&#8217;re going to keep her.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When the baby was born, I didn&#8217;t have any emotions. I wasn&#8217;t happy. I was just very sad, I didn&#8217;t have any emotions.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That&#8217;s when I realized something was wrong, because I was so excited to be pregnant and so excited to have a boy. And when the baby was born, I didn&#8217;t have any emotions or anything.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI remember being on the ward and still feeling a bit in shock and recovering.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the trauma that childbirth put me through made me go crazy.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I came home and couldn&#8217;t stop crying. I cried, cried, cried, because as a new mom, I&#8217;m not used to not being able to sleep.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I remember crying and crying and crying every day. It got worse at night. When I saw the night coming, it was the worst thing for me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThank God I had a supportive husband. I was experiencing postpartum depression and ended up in the mental health unit of the hospital.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ms Stirling-Humphrey then returned to a facility called Helen Mayo House, which provides &#8220;inpatient services for parents with significant postnatal mental health issues&#8221;, which she believes helped her recovery.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I tell myself, I really need help. My little boy needs me so much. That&#8217;s when I decided to go back to Helen Mayo&#8217;s house just to get the treatment he needed,&#8221; Sterling Humphrey said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That&#8217;s when I packed up and Andrew took me home to Helen Mayo&#8217;s house. That&#8217;s when I started crying. I cried every day from the time the baby was born until I started taking medicine and started feeling a little better.<\/p>\n<h3>Stirling-Humphrey talks about returning to netball<\/h3>\n<p>When Stirling Humphrey retired in 2025, she was considered netball&#8217;s top goalkeeper.<\/p>\n<p>Stirling-Humphrey has been a member of the Jamaican team since competing in the 2018 Commonwealth Games, where he won a bronze medal. Since then, Jamaica has won a silver medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and a bronze medal at the 2023 Netball World Cup.<\/p>\n<p>She also served as team captain. I&#8217;m still trying to find myself.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have good days and bad days, but I am far from where I was and the Shamila I knew. I still don\u2019t know who I am now, but like I said, I have good days and bad days.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I have bad days, but today is one of the good days, so I&#8217;m really grateful for that, but there are also moments where I just sit there and cry and feel depressed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you play a big game you get nervous and the anxiety it brings is more than I can handle.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;ve been to hell and back and I&#8217;m thankful I&#8217;m not there anymore.
