Research suggests that combining creatine supplements with resistance training may improve balance and muscle strength, support bone health, and reduce the risk of falls.

From head to toe, creatine is gaining traction in women’s health. However, like other supplements, it is not a panacea that can fundamentally cure aging and menopausal symptoms. Should you incorporate creatine into your daily life? Here’s what the science and experts have to say.

This article is for informational purposes only and is not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. In the body, creatine is stored primarily in muscles, where it acts as a fast-acting energy store. Creatine helps make muscles more efficient and improves function and strength. In addition to creatine, which is produced naturally in the body, several food sources also contain creatine, including raw red meat and fish. Creatine can also be obtained from supplements. Micronized creatine monohydrate powder The most popular and cost effective, followed by creatine gummies and capsule.

<dialog aria-label="Modal Dialog" aria-modal="true" class="fixed bottom-0 left-0 right-0 top-0 z-4 size-full max-h-none max-w-none bg-primary hidden"/>

Creatine helps make muscles more efficient and improves function and strength.

(Bowonpat Sakau via Getty Images)

Should women take creatine?

According to some studies, women at any stage of life, including near or post-menopause, may be able to gain a lot from creatine supplementation.

In a 2021 study, researchers found that when combined with strength training, creatine supplementation may help maintain muscle mass, improve muscle strength, and support bone health in menopausal and postmenopausal women.

Women naturally have 70-80% lower baseline creatine stores than men, and because of hormone-related changes, “supplementation may be especially important during menstruation, pregnancy, postpartum, and menopause.”

For menopausal women, creatine may help maintain muscle mass, improve muscle strength and physical function, and offset bone loss.

“Bone health is thought of as something of a secondary benefit from improving other soft tissue structures that help strengthen bones,” said Dr. Michelle Jacobson, a Toronto menopause expert and co-founder and medical director of Coven Women’s Health. yahoo canada.

<img alt="A focused middle-aged Asian woman in a pink tank top is doing arm stretching exercises with dumbbells in a bright studio. Creatine helps regenerate ATP (adenosine triphosphate), the body’s instant energy currency, which is essential for cognitive function.

ATP production tends to decrease during menopause, which can lead to menopausal symptoms such as fatigue, brain fog, and memory problems.

“There is promising evidence.
